Chingle Hall

The first night I spent at Chingle Hall (in the 1990s) changed my view on ghosts and spirits forever. There was lots of paranormal ghost/spirit activity. Various things happened including loud banging which went around the table I was sitting at, then up the stairs. It was like someone was actually walking around the table, knocking and shuffling against it. I later heard the floorboards creaking and loud footsteps upstairs, then I felt the pressure of footsteps actually press down on the floor boards where I stood. I was still and the only person up there. I’ve captured a strange white mist on film there too. I suddenly smelt lavender, chokingly strong, then within 1 second, nothing. Eleanor Singleton, a girl who was murdered at 17 years old apparently used to wear lavender many years ago, it happened exactly when I called her name, afterwards I found out that exactly the same thing had been experienced by many other visitors. There were numerous cold spots, noises (sometimes I’d hear the actual stone cover scape across where a priest hole was, very loud, when I looked it hadn’t moved on any occasion) and strange feelings. It is extremely haunted including poltergeist activity.

The amount of accounts of constant activity is amazing, including objects moving / poltergeist activity, balls of energy (orbs sometimes seen with the naked eye), bangs, shuffling, loud footsteps, numerous other noises, lots of actual ghost sightings inside and around the grounds (lots of monks, but also a ghost cat), lots of white mist photgraphs (got 1 myself and seen loads), lots of EVP (heard recordings), equipment failing regularly (my new camera battery died), lots of reports of sickness Etc, people effected in other ways, people getting touched, strange smells, even time slips (people seeing objects as they were in the past briefly). Allegedly, if the house (or the residents) don’t like you, you will certainly know about it, apparently there have been numerous people shocked, who will never ever set foot anywhere near Chingle Hall again.

Saying all that a family actually live there, the owner when I visited said that she had built up an understanding relationship with the spirits and although she’s constantly aware of their presence, they don’t interfere or hurt her in any way.

I since spent a further 4 nights there and got to know the then owner quite well. It’s very genuine and activity isn’t guaranteed, 1 night nothing happened apart from a few strange noises, but this is rare for Chingle Hall. Other nights were incredible, too many things happened to list here. It’s got an amazing history too, built in 1260AD, please check out the links above. I think it’s under new ownership, but I think you can still stay there if you’re willing to pay. I’m surprised Most Haunted haven’t been there, because they haven’t, not so much has been heard about Chingle Hall in recent years. Apparently the present owner isn’t keen on too much publicity these days.

It’s about 100 miles from Birmingham, mainly up the M6, the actual building however is in the middle of the countryside, at the end of a long drive, so it’s pitch black, you can’t hear traffic and it really sets of the atmosphere for the night.. I vow to return there soon, it’s awkward until I get a car again, I’m very tempted to rent one as the place is worth it. Anyone sceptical about the existence of ghosts/spirits should definitely spend a night there, it’s difficult to beat.

Sadly Chingle Hall is currently closed to the public. Last time I visited the owner was very ill and people who visited more recently saw her husband. Also I think certain visitors caused trouble for the owner and were disrespectful to the property. It’s a great shame.
