Cheap PCs – From £16 Or £90 For A High Spec

18 January, 2008 (20:57) | Uncategorized | By: admin

If you have a slow PC or you've got hardware problems like intermittent freezing or worse, often it's easier just to buy a replacement PC, rather than upgrading or spending ages trying to fix the problem. Now it can actually be cheaper too. If you are thinking of paying for an engineer to fix a problem, then unless you've got an extremely high specification power PC, it's just not feasible and cost effective any more.

It's amazing how cheap reconditioned PCs are these days. In fact anyone can now purchase a reasonable PC, even if you are on benefits.

Prices are constantly dropping or you get a better PC for the same price. On the 18th January 2008 I paid just £90 for a PC with the following specification, which at the time of writing is quite a decent machine:

AMD Athlon MP 2400+ Dual Processor Tower System, 1 GB of Memory, 60GB Hard Drive, Nvidia Quatro4 380 3D Graphics Card (64MB), 3 months warranty (you would get an even better PC now for the same money as technology is improving all the time).

I didn't need a monitor, but the same shop sells 17" Monitors from £9.99 (As on the 8th July 2008)! They also have lots of other hardware and peripherals available.

If I wanted to spend less, I could have picked up a Pentium 3 base unit as cheap as £16 which is still good enough for general Internet surfing (Correct on the 8th July 2008 – prices are coming down all the time or specifications are increasing for the same price).

The store I visited was Speedie Computer Systems (Est 1992), http://www.speedie.co.uk. Their web site only shows a very small cross section of the many systems they have available, coming in all the time, call the phone number underneath for latest information on what's available. They are a now a short drive or a bus ride from Birmingham City Centre (UK) as they have moved to bigger premises. They deliver throughout the UK and Europe, but this bumps up the price, so I recommend you visit personally if possible. If you can't visit personally because of distance, then I suggest you compare their prices and look for a similar deals nearer to home.

Anyway here's their full address (Updated):

Recently around June 2008 they had modern dual core base units in stock with a very decent specification all round for £130 each.
