Google Translate For Animals – Amazing!

1 April, 2010 (12:43) | Uncategorized | By: admin

Introduction:

What an amazing achievement from Google who have just released a unique mobile phone application that actually allows people to record animals and then using a massive database of animal sounds on a central database, the application matches up and cleverly decodes the sounds, translating them into simple English language sentences that allows people to better understand their animals or pets. The question is, how accurate is this system and does it really work at all? Well, even though there’s much scepticism about whether it works as well as they claim, I recommend you give it a try as in my opinion a massive multinational company as big a Google wouldn’t risk bringing something out that isn’t thoroughly tested.

Google’s official launch video, Introducing Google Translate for Animals:

My Review and Conclusion:

Sounds absolutely incredible doesn’t it? Well of course NOT, you surely must have realised a long time ago that it’s an April fool, especially after watching the video. Obviously there isn’t really an application download available as the application doesn’t exist, if you do happen to find a download link elsewhere other than on Google itself, then it’s certainly a fake and I wouldn’t download it just in case it’s a virus or other malware!

This prank was even obviously linked to from Google’s main search engine home page on April 1st 2010 with the text, “New! Break the language barrier between species with Google Animal Translate!” which would have drawn in thousands if not millions of hits. Google have certainly put a lot of hard work into this well thought out prank, but many people might think that the biggest joke is the complete waste of time and money spent by Google which they could have been much better spent on improving their genuine services. Well it’s not really such a stupid idea on their part as it actually creates Google a lot of extra publicity and advertising which will ultimately expand their user base even more. It might even make the TV news around the world and probably the newspapers which is much more free advertising. Even this website advertises Google by simply writing this article, linking to them. So in summary, the work involved to create this prank is actually a cost effective way of advertising and is more of a serious business venture than just a humorous joke. It also arguably improves Google’s image to the majority of ordinary people as it also tries to show that even a massive market leading Internet giant like Google can still have a good sense of humour.

The links above probably may not stay on-line for long after April Fools Day 2010 is over.

I’m surprised that the link above still works from an April fool that is now over 4 months old at the time of writing.
